Magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)₂) is an important inorganic chemical raw material widely used in flame retardants, pharmaceuticals, and environmental protection. Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, magnesium hydroxide's stability, safety, and environmental adaptability during logistics and transportation require special attention to ensure efficient and safe supply chain management.

 

Physically, magnesium hydroxide is typically a white amorphous powder or hexagonal crystals with a density of approximately 2.36 g/cm³, a low Mohs hardness, and good dispersibility and adsorption properties. It is chemically stable and insoluble in water, but it reacts slowly with acids to form the corresponding magnesium salt and water. Magnesium hydroxide is not susceptible to chemical changes in dry environments, but it may absorb moisture and clump in humid environments, affecting its performance. Therefore, moisture-proof measures, such as sealed packaging or moisture-proof lining, are required during storage and transportation to maintain its dryness.

 

The logistics and transportation of magnesium hydroxide primarily involve land, sea, and air transport. Since it is non-flammable and non-explosive at room temperature and pressure, it is not classified as a hazardous material, but relevant chemical transportation regulations must still be followed. Packaging typically involves multi-layer plastic bags or cardboard drums, enclosed in sturdy fiberboard boxes or steel drums to prevent damage and leakage during transportation. Bulk packaging (such as ton bags or tank trucks) is also common for large-volume shipments, but loading and unloading must be smooth to prevent dust and particle separation.

 

Furthermore, environmental factors must be considered when transporting magnesium hydroxide. For example, high temperatures can cause it to absorb moisture, while extreme humidity can accelerate clumping. Therefore, when transporting magnesium hydroxide in summer or in high-humidity areas, a constant temperature or dry environment should be preferred, and the cargo should be tightly sealed.

 

In summary, the logistical nature of magnesium hydroxide necessitates that its transportation be sensitive to moisture, damage, and environmental compatibility. Through effective packaging, appropriate transportation methods, and strict management measures, efficient magnesium hydroxide flow within the supply chain can be ensured, while mitigating potential risks and meeting the application needs of various industries.
