Types of Ceramic Setter Plate

01

Aluminum Oxide(Al2O3) ceramic setter plate

Lower cost and it is the most popular ceramic setter plate for Metal Injection Molding, with a max service temperature of up to 1600°C(in air).

02

Boron Nitride(HBN) ceramic setter plate

Soft like graphite called “white graphite”, medium cost, long service lifetime, and used as a setter plate for sintering high temperatures up to 2100°C(Insert Gas)

03

Aluminum Nitride (AlN) ceramic setter plate

AlN ceramics is the basis for low lateral temperature differences and results in homogeneous thermal distribution within the sintering components.

Benefits of Ceramic Setter Plate

High temperature resistance:

The fine corundum ceramic composition of the plate enables it to withstand extremely high temperatures encountered in kiln firing processes without warping or deforming, ensuring consistent performance over prolonged use.

Precision machining:

Each setter plate is meticulously crafted to precise dimensions, ensuring uniformity and accuracy in component positioning during firing.

Longevity and durability:

This setter plate exhibits exceptional durability, resisting wear, corrosion, and thermal shock for extended service life and reliable performance.

Cost-effective solution:

Through rational layout and design, the setter plate can process multiple samples simultaneously or increase processing speed. helps minimize material wastage and optimize production throughput.

Application of Ceramic Setter Plate

In the ceramics industry

Setter plates are used primarily for firing tiles, pottery, and porcelain. For example, a tile manufacturer might use ceramic setter plates to ensure each tile is evenly fired, resulting in a uniform finish and color consistency.

In glass manufacturing

Setter plates support the shaping of glassware, preventing deformation during high-temperature treatments.

In electronics

Setter plates are also employed in electronics for firing ceramic insulators or substrates. They help achieve precise heating profiles, which are critical for high-performance electronic components. The outcome is a reliable, high-quality product with minimal defects, reducing waste and rework costs.

Types of Grinding Bead

01/

Acid Washed grinding beads: Are washed with acid to remove small particles and contaminants from the media then oven dried and baked.

02/

Low Binding grinding beads: Are acid washed beads that have undergone an additional proprietary process that reduces the amount of non-specific binding to the surface of the beads.

03/

Molecular Biology Grade grinding beads: Are further processed and certified nucleic acid, DNase, RNase, and protease. For assays potentially sensitive to nucleases and contaminating nucleic acids.

04/

Coated Silica grinding beads: Are silica beads modified by the addition of functional groups (i.e., amine, sulfhydryl, C3, and C8) through the use of silane chemistry. These molecules can be covalently coupled to beads by various chemistries, or adsorbed to the modified surface.

Application of Grinding Bead

Paints & coatings:

Achieve fine dispersions for smooth, durable finishes. For example, ceramic beads are used to disperse pigments evenly, resulting in high-quality paints.

01

Pharmaceuticals:

Milling active ingredients to nanoscale for better bioavailability. Glass beads are common due to their inert nature.

02

Electronics:

Precision grinding of electronic components and materials like ceramics and semiconductors.

03

Cosmetics:

Creating fine powders for products like powders and foundations, ensuring consistency and stability.

04

Mining & minerals:

Crushing ores and minerals to extract valuable elements efficiently.

Q: What is a setter plate?

A: Sintering trays and setter plates, also called sintering setters, are jigs that are used as the base when sintering electronic components in a furnace. Furnace temperatures can exceed 1,000℃ during the sintering process.

Q: What is a setter in ceramics?

A: Their main roles are to hold and support the ware in kilns / furnaces during firing. They are also often stackable, allowing you to maximise your kiln fill and reduce energy consumption.

Q: What are grinding media?

A: Grinding media can be made from steel, ceramic, glass, or other materials. They are the tools used in mills with free-moving grinding media, such as agitator bead mills. The requirements for the grinding bodies can vary greatly depending on the industry, such as food, pharmacy, battery and nanotechnology, or basic chemicals in terms of quality, price, material composition, sterilizability, and morphology.

Q: How are they used?

A: Agitator bead mills are typically operated with a grinding media filling level of up to 90%. The grinding balls are set in motion by an agitator, which is equipped with pins, discs or similar activation elements. The intense motion of the grinding media leads to collisions between the grinding bodies and the activation elements, the grinding chamber wall, or other grinding balls. Product particles are stressed during these contacts through pressure, impact, friction, and shear. The stress conditions depend very strongly on the size of the grinding body, the density of the grinding body, but also on the speed of the agitator shaft and the grinding system used.

Q: What factors influence the choice of the right grinding media for my process?

A: The selection of optimal media depends on various factors. Influences on the selection include not only the hardness, density, or viscosity of the products to be processed, but also the desired particle size and quality demands on the product.

For instance, steel balls are characterized by very high density and their magnetic properties. In contrast, glass grinding balls are grinding bodies with a relatively low density and hardness, but they are interesting for the processing of materials with low hardness due to their low price.

Ceramic balls have an extremely high hardness, fracture toughness, and excellent chemical resistance as well as wear resistance.

The grinding beads quality, including the internal structure, the shape of the balls, and the surface condition, have a direct influence on the product quality, the wear of grinding bodies, and the operational safety of the grinding process.
